It's been inspiring to see women and gender diverse people recently opening up about age gap relationships and their huge potential for problematic dynamics. I wrote this song a few years back about my experience with that. The end of a long relationship with someone older from such a young age leaves you starting from scratch again. The nostalgic sensory experience of going to the beach was no longer a revisit to my childhood but had been replaced with memories of a lost love. I found myself wondering if it had as much of an impact on the other person as it did on me, that maybe it had only shaped me the way it did because it was all I had ever known.
